New York Rangers Power-Play Undergoes Significant Changes After Falling To Last Place In Standings
Colin Stephenson, an NHL Insider, has detailed the goings on during New York Rangers practice today. After ranking last in the NHL with the power-play, the team has debuted new units.
The team has had 36 power-play opportunities this year, and is
32nd in the NHL on the PP. Just another
surprising stat for the team that was poised for a rebound.
A ranking that is enough to hit the panic button. While their 5v5 play is much better, the team needs to improve, and that begins with a shift of personnel.
In front of the net on the 1st power-play unit will be
Will Cuylle, instead of former 1st-round pick Alexis Lafreniere.
The New York Rangers Change Up The Power-Play
While the 2nd-power play looks different with Lafreniere shifting downwards:
PP2 is: Schneider-Lafreniere-Brodzinski-Sheary-Raddysh
The team is dead last in a special teams unit that should give them an advantage to win every night.
New York is spending 5:16 per game with a man advantage, but they simply have been unable to execute, and that is just one of the reasons they are off to the start they are.
There's no excuse for David Quinn and company to keep the status quo for the team, as they fail to deliver on what was sold to fans.
Quinn and the Penguins had one of the best power plays in the league, and now they're struggling.
Seems like it's time to go back to the drawing board. In the last twenty games, the team has a 14.6 power-play percentage.
