Trusted NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has just addressed the all the rebuild talk surrounding the New York Rangers early in the 2025-26 season as struggles continue to progress.

Recently a ton of fans and many alike have been voicing their opinion of the New York Rangers 2025-26 season, as they seem to be facing some serious issues at Madison Square Garden this season. While doing so many feel that it's time for GM Chris Drury to start a rebuild.
Something that is a very reasonable response from fans, as the Rangers struggles have a hit an all-time low following their game on Tuesday night against the Kraken, as they have now lost all six of their appearances at Madison Square Garden this season, bringing their record to 0-5-1 on home ice with four of those being a shutout loss.
Honestly, just a terrible night for the New York Rangers on Tuesday, as they went almost 22 minutes without recording a single shot on net, along with their power play now being 4-for-36 so far on the season. Along with all this, throughout 14 periods at MSG, against teams that are not the San Jose Sharks the Rangers have one goal, which was during their game against the Minnesota Wild.

New York Rangers Preparing For A Rebuild Early In The 2025-26 Season

During a recent appearance on the Morning Cuppa Hockey Podcast, Sportsnet's insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed whether or not the Rangers will undergo a rebuild.
When asked if Friedman things a rebuild is in the works for the New York Rangers, he instantly shut it dow and said that "there's no rebuild coming" as the Rangers are only facing these struggles on home ice.
"No chance, there's no rebuild coming, they grind out wins last week." "They beat Vancouver in a really emotional game for Miller, they look like they're dead In that game against the Oilers and they come back and win it... they find a way against Seattle too and then they come home and do that. I just think that right now It's in their heads. That team I saw last night was not like the team I saw on the road."
So there it is, no rebuild is coming to New York, at least according to Elliotte Friedman. Which makes sense as there is still about 68 games remaining in the Rangers 2025-26 season and that it's way to early to consider a rebuild.
