Former New York Rangers forward will be facing a serious suspension after delivering a very dangerous hit on Thursday night.
On Thursday night, former Rangers forward Tyler Pitlick, who is now currently with the Minnesota Wild had received a match penalty for delivering a very dangerous hit to the head of Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jalen Chatfield.
Just about half way into the first-period Tyler Pitlick skated into the Hurricanes' zone and delivered a hit to the head of Jalen Chatfield, who had just passed the puck up ice. Earning himself the first ever match penalty of the 2026-26 season.

By no surprise, chaos erupted shorty after as Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal immediately came to Chatfield's defence, and sparked a very heated altercation with the former Ranger. However, he was given a 10-minute misconduct for his role in the play.
While all this occurred Chatfield stayed down on the ice and was tended to by the Carolina Hurricanes training staff before heading down the tunnel.
Tyler Pitlick Faces An Automatic Suspension Pending A Review From NHL
As a result of the match penalty, Pitlick was automatically ejected from Thursday nights game, and will be suspending pending an NHL review.
A match penalty involves the suspension of a player for the balance of the game and the offender shall be ordered to the dressing room immediately. A match penalty shall be imposed on any player who deliberately attempts to injure or who deliberately injures an opponent in any manner. - NHL Rule 21.1
Unfortunately we won't know how long of a suspension the 34-year old will face until Friday, when the NHL Department Of Player Safety announces whether or not it will be an in person hearing or an over the phone hearing.
Tyler Pitlick played parts of the 2023-24 season with the New York Rangers where he tallied a total of one goal and three assists for a total of four points in 34 games.
