Major Promotion: Ex-Rangers Forward Filip Chytil's Career In Vancouver Takes An Interesting Turn
The New York Rangers sent center Filip Chytil to the Vancouver Canucks in 2025. In doing so, they would receive J.T. Miller in return for a haul of assets. Despite the Canucks receiving Chytil and Mancini, NHL Insider Thomas Drance believes he's going to do more in Vancouver than in New York.
The Vancouver Canucks have had a precarious offseason, as they've flubbed on multiple centers, including
Mikael Granlund. With a lack of meaningful depth in the lineup, the team has had to accept its fate.
He has been injury-prone during his NHL career and was gleefully accepted as part of the
JT Miller trade.
However Canucks Insider Thomas Drance and the team feel there's no concern:
"Though the Canucks would of course prefer to more proactively flesh out their centre depth ahead of time, hockey operations leadership is comfortable betting on the centres they have." Drance said.
Which may prove to be a fruitful notion, should Chytil remain healthy. When he isn't injured, he can be a great forechecker and driver of offense, which we've seen in New York on the fabled "kids line".
Now, he's a 2nd-line center in Vancouver.
Last season, he played 56 games and scored 26 points (13-13), which may have been more if he had not been injured.
Nevertheless, the Canucks are placing their full confidence in the center to assume important duties he hasn't before elsewhere.
