Taylor Raddysh was signed to a two-year deal by GM Chris Drury and the New York Rangers this postseason. Last year, he spent the year playing for the Washington Capitals, who had a Cinderella season. Can he, as a 3rd-line player, be a key piece in the lineup?
The New York Rangers will have plenty of competition for spots on the third line, as Taylor Raddysh joins a series of players who will vie for the spot.
This year, it might be more of a role for a depth forward like Raddysh, who has yet to top his career year in Chicago, where he scored 20 goals.
Raddysh's singing was under the radar, with the signing of
Vladislav Gavrikov taking media attention.
The 27-year-old signed a two-year, $3 million contract with the Rangers on July 1. His signing flew under the radar because the Rangers made a far bigger splash in free agency that day, signing defenseman Vladisalv Gavrikov to a seven-year, $49 million deal.
Mike Sullivan and the Rangers will have to figure out how to fill the gap in the third line, and the forward could be a solution for the organization.
«We're excited to bring him on board,» general manager Chris Drury said about Raddysh. «He had a good year in Washington last year. He's had some good offensive production from the third line at some other stops along the way. We like his size (6-foot-3, 216 pounds). He's a guy that can play both the wings. I think a good, valuable, bottom-six forward and a good value signing for us.»
He'd help the Washington Capitals finish first in the Eastern Conference last year, and would appear in 80 games, with an ATOI of 12:22. He'd record 27 points (7-20), a career-high in assists.
Raddysh is only three seasons removed from his 20-goal season in Chicago and has found himself a reliable performer in a third-line role, no matter what team he plays on.
The forward could find himself on a third line with two NHLers who complement his north-south style of play, like
Juuso Parssinen and
Jonny Brodzinski. Potential linemates could end up being Gabe Perreault,
Brett Berard, and Connor Sheary.
