According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, there are new potential suitors for Kirill Kaprizov. That club is the New York Rangers which General Manager Chris Drury could utilize the Russian connections on his team to bring the elite Minnesota Wild forward to Madison Square Garden.
The New York Rangers have emerged as suitors for Kirill Kaprizov, according to a recent report from NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman.
After rejecting an $128 million deal, with a $16 million AAV (average annual value) cap hit, the potential to be traded has opened up for the elite Minnesota Wild forward.
One of the teams that could find a way to land Kaprizov could be the Rangers, who have multiple Russian players on the team, namely Igor Shesterkin, Artemi Panarin, and Vladislav Gavrikov.
Why Kirill Kaprizov could be a New York Ranger next year?
In addition to his friendship with Igor Shesterkin and sharing a common tongue with Artemi Panarin and Vladislav Gavrikov, there are other reasons.
The Rangers are set to have $29.6 million in cap space next season, according to the website Sportrac.
While it's uncertain whether or not he'd sign for $16 million here, considering he refused it in Minnesota, maybe General Manager Chris Drury could sell him on the original six team, and playing in historic Madison Square Garden.
Drury has been masterful at managing the cap space here in New York, at times to the dismay of Rangers faithful, considering the slew of trades this year.
But Kaprizov could elevate the Rangers into the contending team they want to be, and have a little help with Panarin on the same line.
