Best Goalie Tandems In The NHL: New York Rangers Star Goaltenders Receive Stunning Ranking

NHL Insider Jim Cerny of Foreverblueshirts has posted a surprising list of the top goalie tandems in the league for goalie week.. In what we'd assume would put Jonathan Quick & Igor Shesterkin number 1, Cerny opted for a completely different duo to our surprise.
The NHL goalie week is nearly concluded, and Foreverblueshirts writer Jim Cerny has posted some interesting rankings for tandems in the league.
He'd compared Jonathan Quick & Igor Shesterkin against other duos in the league, and the results were surprising.
Jonathan Quick has two Stanley Cups in the NHL, a Vezina Trophy winner, a William Jennings Trophy winner, and a Silver Medalist in 2010. But his prime has passed him.
Unlike Igor Shesterkin, whose just begun his ascent in the NHL, he has only acquired the Vezina so far, compared to his storied mentor in Quick.
The Rangers will pay out $13.5 million in salaries for their dynamic duo in the net. But what did that get the Blueshirts compared to the rest of the league in goalie rankings?
Jonathan Quick & Igor Shesterkin ranked 2nd by Jim Cerny
Igor Shesterkin has $11.5 million tied up in salary over the next 8 years, while Quick could end up being a placeholder for Dylan Garand once he's retired from the league.
What did Cerny believe that the elite goalies, Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick, are ranked at #2, compared to the top duo of Connor Hellebuyck and Eric Comrie?
The Rangers' dynamic duo beat out Jake Allen & Jacob Markstrom, Thatcher Demko & Kevin Lankinen, Anthony Stolarz & Joseph Woll.
The reason? Shesterkin finished with the worst SV% of his career with .905, after facing 1,751 shots in 61 games this season with the New York Rangers.
Shesterkin finished seventh in the League with 21.6 goals saved above expected, and tied for second with six shutouts.
Quick failed to beat Father Time this season with 21 games played, 3.17 GAA, and a .893 SV%.
A dismal output compared to the 2023-24 season, 2.62 GAA, and a .911 SV%.
The results are shocking, as the Jets tandem isn't really so much a tandem as Hellebuyck carrying the team on his back. While the Rangers duo remained a solid unit despite a down year in the NHL.
If they were already #2, they should already be at #1.
