The New York Rangers were supposed to be a Stanley Cup contender. This was after making a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals, winning a Presidents' Trophy, and having one of the best seasons the team has had in 2023-2024.

The team was unable to make a mark in the postseason, and that led to Peter Laviolette being fired after a campaign that yielded a 39-36-7 result. The changes started with the trading of Jacob Trouba, and the fallout has arrived.
