Igor Shesterkin Reveals Harrowing Reason for the New York Rangers Downfall in 2024-2025
TheNew York Rangers' season was filled with drama from start to finish. With the team ending the year with Peter Laviolette's dismissal, Vezina Trophy-winning goalie Igor Shesterkin offered some insight into the team's dismal 2024-2025 season.
The New York Rangers were supposed to be a Stanley Cup contender. This was after making a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals, winning a Presidents' Trophy, and having one of the best seasons the team has had in 2023-2024.
The team was unable to make a mark in the postseason, and that led to Peter Laviolette being fired after a campaign that yielded a 39-36-7 result. The changes started with the trading of
Jacob Trouba, and the fallout has arrived.
Igor Shesterkin would offer us some meaningful insight into what he thought led to the team's miserable finish.
«In my mind, something broke during the season and went the other way. We couldn't handle it.»
This was in the midst of the Rangers team cleaning out their locker rooms to end another season in the NHL.
Whatever broke the group, they couldn't seem to recover as a whole, according to Igor Shesterkin, who saw the team he played behind night after night blow leads, and give up soft goals often.
They just wouldn't have to meaning to recoup what they lost, when they lost it. It resulted in the team being booed off home ice in Madison Square Garden.
Now, GM Chris Drury will have to make some tough decisions, as they have multiple free agents to take care of, and others to part ways with if they aren't a part of the Rangers' future plans.
