The worst has been confirmed for former Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug's career. GM Doug Armstrong of the St. Louis Blues reported this week that Torey Krug may never suit up in the NHL again after a career-ending injury.

It was reported today that Blues defenseman Torey Krug may never suit up in the NHL, according to GM Doug Armstrong. The reason? His ankle injury kept him out of the entire 2024-2025 season.
GM Armstrong would confirm with reporters today that he is just now returning to normal life.
Not to mention, the surgery Krug had was very invasive, and it doesn't sound promising that he'll be able to pick up a twig and skate again in the NHL.
«I talked to him, he was at the rink the other day, he's just getting almost normal day-to-day living with his leg, his ankle, so I'm not expecting him to play again,» Armstrong said, per team-provided video. «Now, he's hoping I'm wrong and I'm hoping I'm wrong and he's pushing, but the surgery that he had it was very, very invasive.»

For Torey Krug, it appears he suffered the injury in 2018 when he was playing with the Boston Bruins during the playoffs.
Instead of getting it treated, he managed to push through it for the last six years and seems to have succumbed to the worst-case scenario.
«I fractured my ankle six years ago now in the playoffs when I was with Boston. Over the last few years, it's starting to get worse and worse,» Krug told reporters, per team-provided video. «I've been able to manage it for so long now. Last year was definitely tough, trying to manage the pain level. This summer, I wasn't really able to do the things I needed to do to prepare for the NHL season, a lot of pain and stuff.»

The defenseman would push through and go through ups and downs. He'd later spend a month-and-a-half in rehabilitation trying to recuperate from the injury plaguing him, and instead would have to settle for surgery for his pre-arthritic ankle.
His time with the St. Louis Blues was short, and spend only four years, of seven he signed to play with the team due to this career-ending injury.
The Blues are still on the hook for the final three years of his contract, paying him an AAV of $4.5 million, the contract he signed during the 2020 NHL season.
Krug will join Shea Weber, and Jakub Voracek whose contract will be on LTIR for the remainder of it's term, and will likely be traded around the league for salary cap space reasons.
Krug will finish his NHL career with a total of 778 games played, with a total of 483 points (89 goals, 394 assists) split between the Blues and Bruins.
