Longtime National Hockey League veteran, and New York Rangers defenseman Chad Ruhwedel has just officially announced his retirementfrom the league after 13-seasons.

According to several reports around the league and the NHLPA, Chad Ruhwedel has finally decided to call it career after playing 369 games in the National Hockey League.

Chad Ruhwedel Has Had Quite The Journey In The National Hockey League

Chad Ruhwedel began his NHL career back during the 2012-13 season, as he signed as an undrafted collegiate free agent with the Buffalo Sabres on a two-year entry-level contract after a very successful tenure with the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
Ruhwedel only spent four seasons with the Sabres and served as an immediate injury call-up, before becoming a unrestricted free agent after the 2015-16 season and signing with the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Pittsburgh Penguins. A tenure where Ruhwedel had the most success of his career as he won his first and only Stanley Cup victory during his first season with the organization.
During Ruhwedel's tenure with the Pittsburgh Penguins he managed to play in 326 NHL games throughout eight-seasons where he managed to tally 13 goals and 47 points in that time frame. However, midway through the 2023-24 season Ruhwedel was traded to the New York Rangers for a 2027 fourth-round pick.

Ruhwedel's Tenure With The New York Rangers Was Short Lived

Despite staying with the team for another year, Ruhwedel only managed one assist in 10 games with the Rangers, as he spent much of this past season with their AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, scoring three goals and 18 points in 50 games, with a +12 rating.
Over his 13-year career, Ruhwedel retired with 13 goals and 50 points in 369 NHL contests while going pointless in 25 postseason matchups. In the AHL, he finished with 32 goals and 129 points in 261 games.
On behalf of everyone here at NY Rangers Insider, we'd like to thank Chad Ruhwedel for everything he has done for the organization and wish him nothing but but the best during retirement.
