The NHL officials have gone mad. Today, they called a roughing penalty against the New York Rangers' own Matt Rempe, after he attempted to get in front of the net, but was intercepted by defenseman Andrew Peeke. In a cartoonish result, Peeke would remove him from the crease in order to "protect" Jeremy Swayman and tackle him to the ice.

Despite Matt Rempe doing nothing worth calling a penalty for, the officials at TD Garden today decided to give him a 2-minute roughing penalty.
The call was absurd, as if you've seen it for yourself, Bruins defenseman Andrew Peeke should've received a penalty for how he handled Rempe during the altercation.
During the interaction, you see Rempe barely make contact with Peeke, while he tries his hardest to bring down the towering Rangers forward.

The New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe Is Once Again Targeted by Officials

It wouldn't be worth pointing out, but it's obvious that the officials have influenced the game once they give Rempe a roughing call, for what was nothing.
This wasn't the Rangers forward's only penalty today, considering he accumulated more for fighting with enforcer Mark Kastelic, and he'd receive an unsportsmanlike conduct for fighting at 17:27 in the first period.
The play between Peek and himself would take place during the 2nd period at 7:26, where both players would be called for hooking.
Needless to say, it's ridiculous that the NHL seems to carry a bias towards the rookie forward, who did nothing wrong to Jeremy Swayman or Andrew Peeke.
The Boston Bruins would win the preseason game 4-1 in a disappointing Original Six battle.
Rempe was re-signed this offseason to a two-year deal, paying him in total $975K AAV (average annual value).
