Former New York Rangers defenseman and Stanley Cup Champion, Jack Johnson, who has over 1200 NHL games played has just secured a Professional Tryout (PTO) contract with the Minnesota Wild.

Jack Johnson Has Truly Made A Name For Himself In The National Hockey League

Jack Johnson was originally drafted third overall of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes, and has since played a total of 1228 games with several teams throughout the NHL such as, the Los Angeles Kings, Columbus Blue Jackets, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, Chicago Blackhawks, and the Colorado Avalanche.
However, Jack Johnson ended his final season playing with the Columbus Blue Jackets and managed to just tally six assists in 41 appearances throughout the 2024-25 season. Where he also averaged about 12:52 minutes of ice time
Johnson has also won a Stanley Cup during his first tenure with the Colorado Avalanche back in the 2021-22 season, where he made 72 appearances and tallied 1 goal and 8 assists.

Jack Johnson Will Have His Work Cut Out For Himself With The Minnesota Wild

The Minnesota Wild have a very strong defensive group despite Jonas Brodin not starting season, as General Manager Bill Guerin has confirmed that he underwent upper-body surgery a few weeks ago, and he'll likely miss the beginning of the 2025-26 season.
Along with that, the seventh D slot is already occupied by Zach Bogosian or David Jiricek, making Johnson the odd man out. However, several complications can easily open that spot for him.
