According to reports from a longtime New York Rangers analyst, Larry Brooks,, the Rangers organization could be looking to name J.T. Miller as their 30th captain in franchise history.
As of right now the New York Rangers currently don't have a captain, as GM Chris Drury decided to trade former defenseman and captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks back in December. However, according to Larry Brooks the organization has found their next captain.
New York Rangers Turn To Veteran Forward To Lead The Organization To Success
During the 2024-25 season, things got a bit messy within the organization between the Rangers GM Chris Drury and captain Jacob Trouba, as the former captain revealed that Drury threatened to waive him if he didn't accept a trade.
Then just a few months later the New York Rangers re-acquired J.T, Miller from the Vancouver Canucks in a trade deal involving Filip Chytil and defensive prospect Victor Mancini.
During Miller's second tenure with the Rangers he quickly set a tone for the organization, something that has led longtime analyst Larry Brooks of the New York Post to believe the Rangers will name J.T. Miller as their next captain.
The captain's sweater is not just another piece of laundry. It represents the organization's ethos. The Rangers acquired J.T. Miller to change the team culture. The 32-year-old is hard-edged and can be abrasive. That is the identity the Blueshirts should adopt.
Miller has certainly adapted a mindset of the New York Rangers can be moving forward ever since he returned.
In just 32 games of Miller return to New York he managed to tally a total of 35 points (13G, 22A).
