New York Rangers To Complete Shocking Move As The Bruins Are Actively Shopping Former 8th Overall Pick
The Boston Bruins off-season moves may not be complete, as they are shopping for center Casey Mittelstadt. For the Bruins, they might be able to get a respectable haul for him, while GM Chris Drury and the Rangers could find a use for him down the middle.
The Boston Bruins are currently shopping
Casey Mittelstadt. Mittelstadt was a center they acquired in trade from the Colorado Avalanche before the beginning of the NHL playoffs at the deadline.
Boston's terrible season would lead to them selling off a majority of the best players on their team, including
Brad Marchand and
Charlie Coyle.
For the Bruins, he'll be another player who could net the team some assets to push the rebuild forward.
This would be a significant opportunity for the Rangers to fortify their center depth, which at the moment looks weak, especially if
Mika Zibanejad takes his place on the wing in 2025.
Casey Mittelstadt's Cost & Stats
Mittelstadt has been little more than a depth piece for the majority of his career until recently.
In 82 games split between the Colorado Avalanche and Boston Bruins, he's scored 40 points (15-25).
According to NHL Insider Jimmy Murphy, he could be on the move:
"I don't know how many rumors he's been in, but I've been hearing [Casey] Mittelstadt could be on the move again since before the Bruins season even ended. There was a common feeling that he wasn't their main target when they traded for him; Zellers and the second-round draft pick were."
Mittelstadt has one year left on his $5.75 million AAV deal he signed with the Colorado Avalanche in 2024.
The Rangers would have to move some pieces around to make it work, but adding another 40-point forward would be a step in the right direction for GM Chris Drury.
The only question remains: what would the Boston Bruins want in return for him?
