Former New York Rangers forward returns to the NHL with a massive role in the Atlantic Division

Between 2003 and 2023, Eric Stal was one of the most reliable and consistent players in the NHL, winning the Stanley Cup over an incredible career with Carolina before ending his career playing for New York, Minnesota, Buffalo, Montreal and eventually Florida.

Eric Staal started his NHL career back in 2003 and played until the 2023 season, where he had an incredible career as he won the Stanley Cup with the Carolina Hurricanes before finishing his career after playing with the New York Rangers, Minnesota Wild, Buffalo Sabres, Montreal Canadiens and then finally the Florida Panthers.

Staal officially announced his retirement after the 2022-23 season, ending his career with 1,063 points over 1,365 games played. But now he will officially return to the NHL.

Just earlier on Wednesday morning it was revealed that the 40-year old will return to his former team and take over as the assistant General Manager of the Buffalo Sabres, as they look to end their lengthy Stanley Cup Playoffs drought.

At this time it still remains unclear what Staal's responsibilities will be in his new role as the Assistant General Manager, but with 20 years of experience in the National Hockey League, and experience with winning a Stanley Cup, he'll certainly help the struggling team.

As many already know this, but being in the front office of the struggling Buffalo Sabres won't be an easy task, as the team has truly struggled to build their young core over the last few years. However will Staal's help they just might be able to turn things around.
