Heavy.com is a website that reports on sports and features heavy coverage of the NHL. The site is notorious for dropping trade proposals, some of which are completely bonkers, and should stay on NHL '25.
However, this latest one involved the
New York Rangers and the Colorado Avalanche as they try to solve the Chris Kreider problem. The problem? He's no longer here in New York, and they will need to find a way to replace his production.
One of those players who wears an Avs sweater who could do that is Martin Necas, who hasn't found Colorado to his liking.
Heavy.com's proposal is as follows:
NY Rangers get:
Martin Necas, F
Colorado Avalanche get:
2026 first-round pick
2026 sixth-round pick
Brett Berard, F
Heavy.com speculates that the Avalanche aren't after NHL players, but instead futures, as they'd receive Brett Berard, an upcoming forward in the lineup, and two draft picks (a 1st and a 6th).
While the Rangers would have to sacrifice draft capital and Brett Berard, they would solve an issue in the top-six that has plagued the team for years now.
Necas scored 83 points split between the Avalanche and the Carolina Hurricanes last season, and could offer top-six production and play on the special teams.
Of course, losing a 1st-round pick would sting, but it's expensive to win in the NHL.
To make sure it was all worth it though, the Rangers should make sure he's ready to sign an extension after the deal is conclude.
