J.T. Miller Likely Being Named As Captain Sparks Intense Debate Among New York Rangers Fans

While we don't know what the future holds in store for JT Miller, the possibility of becoming the next New York Rangers captain has been contemplated. For Mike Sullivan, he'll want to give someone the "C" who'll be the voice of the Rangers, and lead them in tough times, and who better than the former first-round pick? He's already a galvanizing force in Madison Square Garden.
Thanks to NHL Insider Larry Brooks, the New York Rangers fans have begun to speculate who'll wear the "C" in Madison Square Garden next.
For Brooks, he's put out the thought that the Rangers should name their former first-round pick, JT Miller, as Captain.
Miller came back to New York by way of trade with Vancouver in exchange for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and a 1st-round pick.
Miller would be a firebrand in New York, scoring 35 points in 32 games (13-22) and averaging 1.09 PPG.
Higher than his time in Vancouver at .88 PPG. Brooks has his reasoning as to why Miller should wear the C.
«The captain's sweater is not just another piece of laundry. It represents the organization's ethos. The Rangers acquired J.T. Miller to change the team culture," Brooks said in his piece. "The 32-year-old is hard-edged and can be abrasive. That is the identity the Blueshirts should adopt.»
The Fans React To JT Miller As Captain
Some felt that this would be too early for the Rangers to name a Captain, especially since Adam Fox didn't have a shot at it first.
The last Rangers star to wear the "C" was Jacob Trouba, who was unceremoniously marched out of the team via trade to the Anaheim Ducks.
Nothing is certain yet, as the team could make the decision at the halfway point of 2025-26 when Mike Sullivan feels he knows the team better than he did at the beginning of the year.
