Former Teammate And Stanley Cup Champion Shares Who The New York Rangers Should Name As Captain

During a recent interview on the Morning Cuppa Hockey podcast, former New York Rangers forward, Nick Bonino has shared who he believes the organization will name as their next captain.

Nick Bonino played for the New York Rangers during the 2022-23 and the 2023-24 season before he made the final decision to hang up the skates on take on coaching.

However, despite only playing 45 games with the Rangers throughout the 2023-24 season, Bonino was able to who the true leaders are in the locker room, such as Adam Fox and Vincent Trocheck.

During his time with the Rangers, Bonino revealed that Trocheck has a magnetism that guys are drawn to and many players look up to him.

There has been 29 captains in New York Rangers history, a tally that includes Mark Messier's two separate stints (1991-1997; 2000-2004) wearing the 'C.» Several Rangers legends such as Brian Leetch, Jaromir Jagr, Brad Park, Andy Bathgate and Harry Howell are among those who've also been captain as well.

So as the Rangers look to name there 30th captain in franchise history, it's important that they listen to the guys who are and have been around the team and players. So they don't end up in the same situation they have been in many times, such as trading away their captain.

As former captain Jacob Trouba was traded to the Anaheim Ducks in December, and prior to that former captain Ryan McDonagh who was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2018.
