New York Rangers prospect, Brett Berard, stood out during both rookie camp and training camp last season for the Rangers, as was extremely close to making the team before being one of the final cuts to be sent down to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.
However, the 22-year old forward managed to get chance with the New York Rangers during the 2024-25 season, as he played 35 games and tallied six goals, four assists, for a total of ten points while averaging 10:43 minutes of ice time.
Along with this, Berard, just recently revealed that he even played parts of the season with a torn labrum in his shoulder, because he didn't want to waste his opportunity with the Rangers.
Brett Berard Doing Everything He Can To Make Rangers Opening-Night Roster
After showing great signs of success, Berard will now have the opportunity to earn himself a permanent spot with the Rangers this season.
But it wont be easy, as it was stated before, there are many other players looking to secure a roster spot, such as Brennan Othamnn, Gabe Perreault, Juuso Parssinen, and the Rangers latest PTO signing, Conor Sheary.
however, Berard is doing anything he can do to make the final roster spot:
«I've put on some weight so far, so that's been good,» Berard said. «But I just need to treat it like a first impression. Even though I've been in the organization for a few years now, it's a new coaching staff I want to show what I can do right from the start.
«I've worked on a lot of rims and (defensive) zone and stuff like that to get more comfortable,» Berard said. «Anything can happen. I'm preparing for all outcomes.»
Only time will truly tell if Mike Sullivan thinks he's ready for a permanent roster spot in the NHL.
