Two-time Stanley Cup champion and original-six veteran Tyler Johnson has chosen to retire from the NHL. Today, the 34-year-old announced the decision on social media, which contained a long and heartfelt message to his fans and former teammates.

Two-time Stanley Cup champion Tyler Johnson announced his retirement on Instagram today.
The 34-year-old last played for the Boston Bruins, an original-six team in the NHL. Before he joined Boston, he had a long and storied career with the Tampa Bay Lightning, which began during the 2012-13 NHL season.
Johnson would be a part of the "triplets" line with Nikita Kucherov and Ondrej Palat, where he'd record 72 points (29-43) in 77 games with the Lightning. He was a part of all three runs to the Stanley Cup with the Lightning, but their loss to the Chicago Blackhawks in 2015 was just a taste of success to come.
He'd stick around long enough with the Tampa Bay Lightning to win two Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021.
In 2021-2022, he'd find himself as part of the trade that sent him to the Chicago Blackhawks (for Brent Seabrook's contract), where he'd play three seasons.
"Playing for an Original Six team, the Chicago Blackhawks, was a profound privilege," Johnson said. "Wearing the crest of hockey's legends was humbling. My only regret is not bringing more success to Chicago's passionate fans-you deserve it."

The Blackhawks would receive Johnson and a 2023 second-round pick.
He'd leave the team to test free agency to find himself on a contending NHL team's squad. He would later sign a PTO with the Boston Bruins and would receive his last NHL contract for $775K for 2024-25.
Johnson played a total of 747 games in the NHL, scoring a total of 433 points (193-240).
