The New York Rangers lose beloved Play-By-Play Announcer to Hudson River Rival
According to a report today from the MSG Networks, play-by-play announcer Don LaGreca is leaving his post for the New York Rangers. He will be switching crests and colors as the Network has tapped him to join the New Jersey Devils broadcast this season.
While this does feel like a stab in the back by MSG Networks, we remain happy for Don LaGreca. The network has decided to place him on the New Jersey Devils broadcast for the 2025-26 season and beyond.
Instead of being play-by-play on the radio for the Rangers on ESPN, he will be joining the live broadcasts of the Devils games to call the plays there and offer analysis.
This news comes as a complete shock for all of us Rangers fans who have been used to Lagreca being the reliable voice on the radio for the Blueshirts.
Lagreca would mention how much it meant to him to join the broadcast of the team that got him into hockey, which seems to me would be a dream come true.
«To be the voice of the team that got me into hockey as a kid, a team that represents my home state with an incredible fan base, and to follow in the footsteps of some of the great play-by-play voices in the sport is an absolute dream come true,» LaGreca said.
Lagrace will join Ken Daneyko for the Devils broadcasts, which will take place on the MSG Networks.
The New Jersey native has been the voice of the Rangers on the MSG Radio Network since 2005, and was on ESPN Radio in New York since 2001.
Lagreca has recently been on the radio show "Don, Hahn & Rosenberg" and has been a co-host on the "Michael Kay Show" since 2002.
We'll miss Lagreca calling Rangers games, but this is truly a homecoming and a dream come true for him no doubt.
