The Buffalo Sabres Organization Issues A Major Announcement Regarding Former New York Rangers Defenseman

The Buffalo Sabres saw something in Zac Jones that the New York Rangers didn't. This season, the former Blueshirt defenseman will be lining up in Royal Blue, as he joins the Sabres team that is outside of the playoff discussion and on the path to a rebuild. New York Rangers fans are bawling, as they learned today that Zac Jones has found a new home in the NHL. After his frustration being aired out in public with the team last season, this isn't surprising.
Jones would find limited usage last season due to the influx of blueliners that general manager Chris Drury would sign. He'd sign Urho Vaakanainen, trade for Calvin de Haan, bring in Carson Soucy through trade, and leave Jones high and dry.
The young defenseman would experience a lack of playing time that led to an outburst.
«It (expletive) sucks, it (expletive) sucks,» Jones told Larry Brooks of the New York Post. «It's frustrating when you think you're doing some things well, and it's just, you just keep getting taken out, taken out, taken out. I just feel like I'm rotting away a little bit.»
Now, as he arrives in Buffalo, he'll be suiting up for the team wearing #28.
Zac Jones Signs a Two-way Deal in Buffalo
Instead of rotting away on the Rangers bench, he thought that joining the Sabres was a better value proposition. The deal is a one-year, two-way contract that pays him $900K/$500K.
For the defenseman, if he doesn't earn a spot out of training camp, he'll have to climb the depth chart in hopes of finding utilization on NHL ice.
As a free agent signing on July 2nd, he laid the path for his next journey in the league. This is after spending 5 years in New York and not cracking a full-time spot in the lineup.
While it is sad for Rangers fans, they lost another prospect and favorite. However, he'll likely receive more playing time in Buffalo, rather than Madison Square Garden.
