The New York Rangers could put themselves back into win-now territory if they could combine with the Buffalo Sabres for a trade. The trade would involve assets such as Braden Schneider and a 2026 draft-pick for Bowen Byram.
The New York Rangers have lost a lot of talent this postseason, including defenseman
K'Andre Miller. In order to shore up the blue line, they could find someone to replace Miller's production in the lineup with the Buffalo Sabres' own
Bowen Byram.
Byram was a member of the Colorado Avalanche when they won a Stanley Cup in 2022, and would later be traded to the Buffalo Sabres for
Casey Mittelstadt.
For the Rangers, they need to find themselves in win-now mode again, and the 30-point, top-four blue liner could do that. But the cost would require some sacrifice of the team's future (s), including prospect Braden Schneider, as proposed by Heavy.com.

The Buffalo Sabres could use
Schneider in the lineup as a shutdown defenseman, something they're missing in a lineup full of offensive defenseman, from
Rasmus Dahlin down.
For the Sabres, he's the exact kind of player they want, someone with snarl, and could make the team difficult to play against.
They would also receive a 2026 2nd-round pick from the Carolina Hurricanes to draft or trade with, depending on how GM Kevyn Adams decides to use it.
While the Rangers could get Byram on a bridge deal that pays him $12.5 million over the next two years. Byram scored a total of 38 points (7-31) last season with the Sabres and could improve on a Mike Sullivan-led team in 2025-26.
