The New York Rangers have been operating without a Captain since December after Jacob Trouba was traded to the Anaheim Ducks. Since GM Chris Drury hired Mike Sullivan in an effort to change course back into a win-now status, Sullivan and Drury could find reason to name a Captain before the puck drop in October.
The New York Rangers will need to shift the direction of the culture, with Mike Sullivan leading the way for the team.
Before puck drop in October, and after training camp has concluded, it seems likely that they might try and find a leader and a voice in the locker room to build a relationship with for the Rangers.
The team has had scant leadership since December, with the trade of Jacob Trouba, and the demoralization has shown on the ice every night.
With JT Miller, you could see a spark in the offense, but not enough to put them back into winning territory.
Who is The Next Rangers Captain
The New York Rangers need leadership. Since Trouba's exit, the team hasn't looked the same, and a 5th-place finish in a Division they dominated a year prior is a determining factor.
The team would compete for a wildcard spot in the playoffs, but would fall short.
With someone like J.T. Miller, Vinnie Trocheck, or Mika Zibanejad, there's hope the room can heal once again.
If we're going by experience and how Sullivan operates, like Sidney Crosby in Pittsburgh, it's more likely it'll be a center.
This explains the three names above as potential replacements for Jacob Trouba.
Players will have to consider the cost-benefit analysis, given how poorly captains seem to be treated in the league.
