Former New York Rangers captain and the newest face in the broadcast booth for MSG, Dave Maloney, has just exposed his true thoughts on the organizations newest coaching staff.

We're slowly inching towards the beginning of the NHL season with training camps starting up soon. For the New York Rangers, this year is a reset.
New coaching staff, new broadcast team, and a new look Rangers team will take the ice.

Could the Wealth of Knowledge Bring Success Back to New York?

With Mike Sullivan and David Quinn taking the reins from Peter Laviolette, he believes that the Rangers will perform better in Madison Square Garden this year with a new voice.
Quinn was the team's former Head Coach from 2018-21, and Mike Sullivan was an assistant in 2009-14 when John Tortorella ran the show. For that reason alone, they should fit right in here in New York.
«Let alone about Mike Sullivan's maturation after being an assistant coach here and to go on and coach two Stanley Cup winners and elite players,» Maloney told Forever Blueshirts on a RINK RAP podcast in July. «I think it's beneficial that he and David Quinn have been in the market. There's no kind of learning period. OK, how do I get from Westchester to the rink on game day? Where am I going to live? I just think that's a first step in the right direction.»

The knowledge both individuals have accumulated working jobs in Pittsburgh, San Jose, and then returning to their former stomping grounds shouldn't be a cause for concern, but a place where they can pool their knowledge to build a winning team.
Maloney states, it's not easy to win in New York, but with Sullivan's two cups underneath his belt, this challenge should be cake.
Even with all of the media criticisms, he'll have lofted his way.
«Coaching elite players - and Sidney Crosby will go down today as one of the greatest players in the game, and you throw [Evgeni] Malkin into the mix, you throw [Kris] Letang into the mix - I just think that experience, when we look back on last season, there was just a little bit of a vacuum when it came to leadership, particularly when things went wrong,» Maloney said. «Between the experience of Quinn and Sullivan, and the rearranging of the core, I think it's a step that had to be taken.

For the Rangers, they'll need both Quinn and Sullivan on their A-game to fill the vacuum left by Peter Laviolette after his unceremonious firing after 2024-25.
They'll both need to clean their slates and work towards building a Rangers lineup that can play hard-nosed hockey every night against, their opponents. All the while bringing a knowledge that only a Stanley Cup-winning coach can to New York in order to usher in a winning era of hockey not seen since 1994.
