Forward Carey Terrance was acquired in trade from the Anaheim Ducks for veteran winger Chris Kreider. The deal saw the New York Rangers use a veteran piece to grow their prospect pool in addition to a third-round pick. Terrance has his eyes set on being a great player in the Rangers' lineup.

The development camp is an experience where NHL prospects learn and grow. For Carey Terrance, one of the latest Rangers acquisitions, he took part in the Rangers camp and would leave some details for coaches to sweep up.
The prospect failed to finish in the way coaches liked it, "in a strong manner," and would lead to a talking to from Jed Ortmeyer regarding the drills.
While you'd expect a chewing out from your boss, Ortmeyer let Terrance know the team's expectations, and would have a discussion on the fundamentals.
"He was like, 'Yes, let me know. I want to be coached. You're never going to hurt my feelings. I want to know,' " Ortmeyer said. "That was great to hear. He wants to be coached. He wants to get better and he's hungry. He's eager to learn and he wants to be great."

He'd remain humble, despite his impressive junior resume with three gold medals and two world championships with Team USA (2025 and 2024).
Terrance is a proven producer, scoring 39 points in 45 games with the Erie Otters, and a teammate of Rangers prospect Malcolm Spence. The former Otters Captain is used to being utilized in a bottom-six, checking role and a high-performing north-to-south forward. He'd be a healthy scratch on Team USA in 2024 and would be on the PK in 2025.
Instead of grumbling about his assignments, he worked through them with class.
Terrance knows that the game happens on both ends of the ice and would still find a way to contribute in 2025, scoring two goals in seven games.
"Defense wins championships," Terrance said. "That was a big thing my last two years in the World Juniors and U-18s, that was kind of my role -- play on the PK, win face-offs and be reliable. That's something I've taken pride in my four years of junior and tournaments like that."

Said Carle: "There is more offensive upside than maybe what we were asking of him, but that's the tournament and guys are asking to do things that the team needs them to do.

Terrance knows what he must do, what is asked of him on the ice every night to help the team succeed. Part of that is accepting criticisms and growing from your mistakes on the ice every night.
That's why his former Team USA coach, David Carle, projects him to reach a potential level of former Chicago Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews.
But he could end up being close to another center who played 844 games in the NHL, Nate Thompson, who suited up for nine NHL teams.
Either way, his goals are simple: to play his best 200-foot game and be the best he can be for the Blueshirt.
