The Washington Capitals just beat the Carolina Hurricanes 7-6, in a shootout to walk away with two critical points as they sit behind the Detroit Red Wings for the eighth and final playoff spot with a game in hand down one point.

Paul Bissonnette calls them the biggest anomaly in the NHL.

Take a listen:

He brings up some great points.
Of all the currently playoff qualifying teams, they rank dead last in goal differential and goals scored with a minus 30 and 191 goals scored respectively.
They are also second to dead last among teams that have allowed goals with 221, and this team is in the driver seat for making the playoffs!
They could be a first round matchup for the Rangers depending on how things shape up in the final 12 games of the season.
