The current NHL playoff format has not won over many people over the last number of years since it was implemented.
Many still long for the day when the NHL would have the 1-8 format where teams that played better and one more game deserve home ice advantage throughout the playoffs.
Former general manager and TSN insider Craig Button took to the airwaves discussing how he dislikes the current format and feels that great teams that have great success in this regular season are not getting the recognition or the advantage they should.

Craig Button certainly brings a few ideas to the table including the top seeded team being able to pick their opponent rather than being relegated to the rules of how the point system works.
He also goes on to the idea about giving more home games to a team that finishes better.
It would certainly strike up conversation amongst the fan base and the NHL owners and general managers.
Of course, playoff format did not come up in the discussion with the general managers meetings wrapped up in West Palm Beach FL.
Gary Bettman wanted parity in this league, and he certainly has that now.
However, it will get to a point where these great teams that are playing other great teams early on should have a better advantage against the weaker clubs once again.
