The Ken Holland regime takes hold in Los Angeles, and we may see the first casualty of his reign as GM. NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman gave us some insight into where we could see Vladislav Gavrikov next, and GM Chris Drury and the New York Rangers could be the next to land him.
The New York Rangers could be the team to land free agent Vladislav Gavrikov. It appears that under Ken Holland's regime, the team will not be offering him a new contract, as he's due a significant raise.
The 30-point (5-25) defenseman in Los Angeles has proven himself capable of eating heavy minutes and being a great complement to veteran defenseman
Drew Doughty.
And according to Elliotte Friedman on the 32TP, it appears that the Rangers could be poised to sign him in July.
It's not just Friedman saying this, as other NHL teams believe he'll want to join the Rangers instead of staying in LA.
Gavrikov would undoubtedly slot in on
Adam Fox's left and would be an upgrade from
K'Andre Miller. An RFA that the New York Rangers could find a new home for in the meantime, to make room for Gavrikov.
His next deal could eat into the Rangers' cap, as it's been projected that he could ask upwards of $8.5 million AAV for his next deal.
Though we doubt that GM Chris Drury would settle for that high of a cap hit for someone like Gavrikov.
Time will tell whether or not we see the russian defenseman take the ice in a Blueshirt.
