GM Chris Drury brought back JT Miller in a trade that sent Filip Chytil and Victor Mancini to the Vancouver Canucks. With this move, Drury brought back a competitive edge to the Rangers' lineup as Miller isn't cheap, with an AAV of $8 million.
The move seems sudden, considering the Rangers gave up so much in order to acquire him from the Canucks. Rest assured, he wouldn't miss out on the opportunity to score a goal on the Boston Bruins, his first night back as a Blueshirt.
Miller would help
Mika Zibanejad find his game again and would also contribute 35 points in 32 games with the Rangers, while scoring 70 points combined this season.
He's set to capitalize on his second tour with the Blueshirts after originally playing 341 games in New York, scoring 172 points (72-100).
Miller's Redemption Arc & Future Captaincy?
There's been a lot of speculation during the postseason on whether
Miller would end up earning the "C" on Broadway during his second stint in MSG.
He'll have plenty of competition between himself, Mika Zibanejad, and Vinnie Trocheck as legitimate candidates for the role.
While he and Mike Sullivan are familiar with one another, as Sullivan was head coach of Team USA during the 4NF, he should have no issues understanding Sullivan's wants and needs in a Captain.
But, for Miller, it's not just about leadership, it's about starting fresh after being traded to Tampa Bay, then Vancouver.
Now back home in Madison Square Garden, the former 1st-round draft pick in the 2011 NHL Draft is set to make an impact the entire year for the team.
