Reports have just surfaced that urges the New York Rangers to trade away their former first-round draft pick to a very underwhelming Atlantic Division team.

One NHL Insider has urged the New York Rangers to trade away their former first-round pick, Alexis Lafreniere, to the Buffalo Sabres with a stunning trade proposal. This idea comes after the Sabres traded away forward JJ Peterka to the Utha Mammoth this offseason for Michael kesselring.
But now that the Sabres lost a 27-goal scorer, they need to find someone to boost their top six, and the one player who was mentioned was New York Rangers star forward Alexis Lafreniere.
Which makes sense considering the former first-round pick of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, had quite a disappointing season with the New York Rangers and has had his name surrounded in trade speculation as it would give the organization a chance to clear a $7.45M cap hit.

NHL Analyst Urges The Sabres To Make A Move On Alexis Lafreniere With Intriguing Trade Deal

Michael Augello of The Hockey News, urges the Buffalo Sabres to make an offer for Alexis Lafreniere due to the fact he "has a number of traits that the Sabres undoubtedly are looking for," along with the fact that he doesn't have any trade-protection at this point in his career.
Despite the Rangers, acquiring free agent Vladislav Gavrikov, they could certainly use another defenseman, something that was pointed out by Augello
"Owen Power's name might be floated, but it is hard to imagine that the Sabres would make that swap one-for-one, and perhaps would try to steer the Rangers towards a deal involving Bowen Byram instead. "

"Byram was an RFA this summer, and although his name has been in trade rumors since earlier last season, he re-signed with the Sabres on a two-year, $6.25 million bridge deal. But Buffalo is stacked on the left side of the blueline, with Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power occupying the spots in the top-four, so Bryam remains a trade candidate."

Lafreniere broke through in 2023-24 with a career-high 28-goal season and seemed to be a key core piece for the Rangers for the future. But unfortunately he couldn't back that up as he struggled this past season, dropping to just 17 goals and 45 points with a minus-13 rating, leaving many Rangers analyst including Mollie Walker of the New York Post agreeing that the organization should part ways with him.
