The J.T Miller and Elias Pettersson saga continues as a trusted figure in the hockey world has suggested that Canucks forward Elias Pettersson needs to learn a few things from Miller, if he ever wants to reach «his full potential».
Ever since
J.T. Miller was re-acquired by the New York Rangers during the middle of last season, due to a reported feud that broke out in the locker room between the two players. However, many believe this truly affected how Pettersson performed for the remainder of the season.
On Wednesday, a new report surfaced that truly revealed some new information on why the relationship between Miller and former Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet went south.
«They were never quite pulling in the same direction. Tocchet wanted discipline. Miller brought passion-sometimes a little too much of it. Defensive lapses, sideline blow-ups, heated exchanges with teammates it all started to feel like his style was clashing with Tocchet's message. You could see it on the bench during games. Miller had pivoted away from the ice and engaged in mid-game «conversations» with his head coach.» - The Hockey Writers
Elias Pettersson Encouraged To Be More Like J.T. Miller This Upcoming Season
Without a doubt J.T. Miller left a mark with the Vancouver Canucks organization during his tenure, as he proved to be a leader and showed great passion for bring out the best in all the players.
Something that we all seen as Miller joined the New York Rangers, and is now considered to be one of the few candidates expected to be named captain next season.
Here's what a popular Canucks podcast host, Cam Robinsonon, had to say and suggest for Pettersson to reach his full potential.
«Sometimes it takes players a little while to find some of that fire in them. [Pettersson] is never going to be a J.T. Miller-like player with that intensity,» Cam Robinson said on the Sekeres and Price podcast. «But I do think that he can grow into it a little bit more and find that switch a little more often.» - Cam Robinson
Only time will tell if Pettersson will be able to develop into a player like his former teammate, J.T. Miller, but honestly it's not likely that he will be able to bring the same type of grit and leadership Miller brings to a team.
