The New York Rangers Send League-Wide Message After Naming J.T. Miller As Captain

The New York Rangers have sent a message to the NHL with their latest move. The team has named their newest Captain ahead of the 2025-26 season. That is former 1st-round pick J.T. Miller, who has found a new purpose, with Mike Sullivan giving him the honor to wear the Captain's patch.
The New York Rangers believe that J.T. Miller will be the one to lead the team into the 2025-26 season.
Mike Sullivan and the team have placed the "C" on his jersey as he'll be the example of leadership for the Rangers players to follow on and off the ice. They hope that he can find it in himself to help construct an identity for the team that's long been missing.
The team that has been pushed out of the playoffs by the Florida Panthers twice will have to figure out how to get that snarl in their play.
With Miller in the lineup, you can see the team improved how they played at the end of the season, and elevated Mika Zibanejad's play, too.
A New Path for 2025-26: The New Comeback Kids in New York?
Chris Drury has laid the path for Miller's ascendancy after he fired Peter Laviolette and hired Mike Sullivan to lead the team for the next season.
He intended to establish a culture and identity in New York that had dissolved, as many core pieces were traded this past season, including some of the "kid-line" in Filip Chytil and Kaapo Kakko.

The goal of the New York Rangers is to make the team hard-nosed and tough to play against, as Miller isn't afraid of getting dirty and chirping the opposition.
Miller will be the 29th Captain in New York Rangers history and will hopefully influence his teammates to be a competitive force on the ice.
Something that, near the end of his tenure, Jacob Trouba was unable to do.
