Rangers Insider confirms NHL teams are disinterested in Rangers forward
As the NHL offseason rolls on, it appears that NHL teams are disinterested in acquiring Rangers forward Kappo Kakko.
Kakko recently signed a one-year deal worth $2.4 million as he agreed to his qualifying offer. Even though the team had signed him to that contract it became clear over the past several weeks that the organization is looking to move off from the former second overall pick in 2019.
Rumors were running rampant across the Internet along with stories that the Rangers would attempt to package him to make a run higher in the draft, but nothing came to fruition. It seems that general manager Chris Drury feels a change is needed as Kokko has not found his game with the Rangers.
According to Vince Mercogliano, no deal has gained any traction between Drury and other general managers.
"I'm pretty sure they're dangling Kaapo Kakko and will pursue deals to possibly move him this summer. I think they're not thrilled with the offers that they've gotten so far which is why he's still on the roster." The organization is looking for an upgrade on their top six as the team struggled at times to score goals especially five on five even though their power play was one of the best in the NHL. It's likely the Rangers will hang on to him if they can find a right deal as they do not want to lose the trade.
"They kind of need him right now. I still think it's a possibility he gets traded... (but) his status is up in the air... I'm not sure what's out there that would really be an obvious deal that the Rangers can make."
No matter the outcome, the Rangers still hold him within the organization and the team is not in any hurry to trade him if they will get the right deal.
