New York Rangers reportedly shifting their focus to these two star players this offseason

The New York Rangers are doing what the Toronto Maple Leafs should've done years ago. Reshaping the entire roster and attempting to put themselves in win-now mode.

The Rangers finished 5th in a dismal performance this season, and could utilize two forwards who could be available in July.

One of them is Martin Necas, who is unhappy with the Colorado Avalanche, and the other is Jason Robertson, a cap casualty in Dallas.

Martin Necas thought he'd find a new home in Colorado. But according to some reports, it appears he may not re-sign as the situation in Colorado grows more opaque. The team recently re-signed Brock Nelson to a $7.5 million AAV deal, and this could be what pushes Necas out.

The team currently has $1.2 million in cap space available, and every team values flexibility with their salary cap situation. Necas might be a good way to regain some money and utilize it on a player who wants to be there.

Necas has one year left on his deal, paying him $6.5 million AAV. Necas scored 55 points (16-39) in 49 games split between the Carolina Hurricanes and Colorado Avalanche.

The Dallas Stars are in a precarious situation. With only $455K in salary cap space left after signing center Matt Duchene to a $4.5 million AAV deal.

They'll have to consider moving someone who could save them a significant sum of money, and that could be former 40+ goal scorer Jason Robertson.

Robertson's cap hit with the team comes at a $7.75 million AAV, and could be a highly sought-after play in July if GM Jim Nill is determined to make a deal.

The Rangers need to focus on getting younger and acquiring more assets, and cap space to work with, while they focus on a retool that keeps them competitive.

Either one of these players could help keep them in the postseason discussion in 2025-26.
