New York Rangers reportedly shifting their focus to these two star players this offseason
The New York Rangers have $13.9 million in cap space. This was after trading Chris Kreider to the Anaheim Ducks and signing depth forward Matt Rempe to a two-year deal. Now, the big game hunting begins in the post-season.
The New York Rangers are doing what the Toronto Maple Leafs should've done years ago. Reshaping the entire roster and attempting to put themselves in win-now mode.
The Rangers finished 5th in a dismal performance this season, and could utilize two forwards who could be available in July.
Martin Necas thought he'd find a new home in Colorado. But according to some reports, it appears he may not re-sign as the situation in Colorado grows more opaque. The team recently re-signed
Brock Nelson to a $7.5 million AAV deal, and this could be what pushes Necas out.
The team currently has $1.2 million in cap space available, and every team values flexibility with their salary cap situation. Necas might be a good way to regain some money and utilize it on a player who wants to be there.
Necas has one year left on his deal, paying him $6.5 million AAV. Necas scored 55 points (16-39) in 49 games split between the Carolina Hurricanes and Colorado Avalanche.
The Dallas Stars are in a precarious situation. With only $455K in salary cap space left after signing center
Matt Duchene to a $4.5 million AAV deal.
They'll have to consider moving someone who could save them a significant sum of money, and that could be former 40+ goal scorer Jason Robertson.
Robertson's cap hit with the team comes at a $7.75 million AAV, and could be a highly sought-after play in July if GM Jim Nill is determined to make a deal.
The Rangers need to focus on getting younger and acquiring more assets, and cap space to work with, while they focus on a retool that keeps them competitive.
Either one of these players could help keep them in the postseason discussion in 2025-26.
