This left families without brothers, husbands, and kids without a father in their lives. That is the case for Matthew Gaudreau's wife, Madeline who is still pregnant.
She lost her husband Matthew and brother Johnny to a drunk driver in rural New Jersey.
«Last night we lost two husbands, two fathers, two sons, two brothers, two sons and brothers-in-law, two nephews, two cousins, two family members, two teammates, two friends but truly two amazing human beings,» their family wrote in a statement. «We want to let everyone know we are receiving your messages of love and support and we appreciate your continued thoughts and prayers.»
This led people to act in solidarity to help keep Madeline going, as she is struggling through grief, she will need support.
Many NHLers donated, and many donated which helped the widow of Matthew meet her goal, fortunately.
One of those would be Artemi and his wife Alisa, who made a significant donation to the fund, which grew to $320K surpassing the original goal for Madeline Gaudreau.
They did what they could to show solidarity with their fallen brethren in the hockey community.
It is heartwarming to see people rally around Madeline during this difficult time.
