New York Rangers facing a ton of backlash from fans following latest announcement regarding Matt Rempe

Earlier on Wednesday morning, the New York Rangers made a pretty significant announcement as they reached an agreement with fan favourite enforcer Matt Rempe on a two-year contract extension, worth a 975k per season.
Matt Rempe burst on the scene two seasons ago with the New York Rangers with his style of play, physicality and toughness along with his ability to stand up for his teammates when needed, that made him a easy fan favourite and a team favourite.
Certainly a style of the play the New York Rangers were lacking during their 2023-24 Stanley Cup run, that ended in the Eastern Conference Finals due to the now two-time, back-to-back Stanley Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers.

Matt Rempe had to earn his contract extension with the New York Rangers
The past season has been a roller coaster for the 22-year-old forward as the Rangers coaching staff had called him and sent him back to the Hartford Wolfpack several times as his play continued to diminish.
As the season was coming to an end, Rempe began to show his worth not tied to his fists and may have helped his cause to land a new deal with the Rangers.
Standing at 6 foot 9 and 255 lbs, Rempe played 42 games for the Rangers, scoring three goals of five assists for eight points and was a + 7.
He fell a little short to his penalty minutes from last season of 71 where he amassed 67 penalty minutes this year while only plain 8 minutes and 30 seconds of average ice time.

However, both Drury and Sullivan clearly see the potential in Matt Rempe as he has truly improved his skills with his time in the NHL as a member of the New York Rangers.
