The New York Rangers' decision-makers have a full plate of responsibilities during the offseason. One of those should be who will be the Blueshirts' next Captain, after they so cold-heartedly traded Jacob Trouba. A viable leader for that role, would be forward Vinnie Trocheck.

The New York Rangers have been without a captain since December 6th, when the team traded Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks.
The team would rely on Artemi Panarin, Chris Kreider, Adam Fox, and Mika Zibanejad to provide that kind of influence in his place as alternate captains.
While there's precedent that GM Chris Drury could run it back this very same way, as if we recall, there was a four-year gap in between Ryan McDonagh and Jacob Trouba.
Remember, the Rangers went four years between Ryan McDonagh in 2018 and Trouba in 2022 without naming a captain. So, there is precedent within the organization for that approach.

With a retool on the horizon, GM Chris Drury may want to shake up the group. As the possibility of a trade remains for players like Chris Kreider, it's doubtful he'll run the same group back in 2025.
This would pave the way for players like JT Miller and his best friend Vinnie Trocheck to come in and take the reins, if Chris Drury so chooses.
For Trocheck, leadership feels natural to him, and with three years remaining on his deal the 32-year old would be a prime candidate.
«I wouldn't even look at it as pressure. I want to - I want to be part of the reason we do right the ship,» Trocheck explained.

It's already a role he embraces behind the scenes, as pressure doesn't faze him. He steps up to meet it head-on.
He's already proven that he doesn't play for the name on the back, but the crest on the front, never seeking the spotlight but playing hard.
Trocheck isn't a stranger to a backcheck, blocking shots, or getting in the dirty areas for a puck. He's not afraid of accountability and plays with a fire in his game that deserves a leadership position.
It's high time that GM Chris Drury respects that, as Trocheck already has the respect of the league, who knows him as someone who will put it all on the line to win. A reputation he established in Carolina, Florida, and now New York.
