The New York Rangers have an important decision to make regarding team enforcer Matt Rempe he is set to become a restricted free agent this summer.

Rempe burst on the scene two seasons ago with his style of play, physicality and toughness along with his fighting that made him a fan favorite and a team favorite.

Rempe likely to be retained by Rangers for next season

Remy Mastey of The Hockey News feels that the Rangers young enforcer has done enough in his year and a half with the Rangers garner a contract extension.
It will likely be a contract for about one or two years with little financial risk as Rempe continues to grow and progress through his development. - Remy Mastey
This season has been a roller coaster for the 22-year-old forward as the Rangers coaching staff had called him and sent him back to the Hartford Wolfpack several times as his play continued to diminish.
As the season was coming to an end, Rempe began to show his worth not tied to his fists and may have helped his cause to land a new deal with the Rangers.
Standing at 6 foot 9 and 255 lbs, Rempe played 42 games for the Rangers, scoring three goals of five assists for eight points and was a + 7.
He fell a little short to his penalty minutes from last season of 71 where he amassed 67 penalty minutes this year while only plain 8 minutes and 30 seconds of average ice time.

Rangers preparing for a busy offseason

Aside Rempe, it's widely expected that general manager Chris Drury will have a busy offseason as the team looks to improve on all levels whether it's through trade or unrestricted free agency.
The team has promised the fan base a new look and a new style especially with their new hire for head coach in Mike Sullivan.
The former assistant back in 2009 will now run the bench and bring his aggressive offence and heavy forecheck to the team.
Both Drury and Sullivan have told the media that they will be working closely together to mapping out a path and getting the players needed to help bring the Rangers back into the playoffs and make another run at a Stanley Cup.
