The New York Rangers could solve an issue in their top-six by adding forward Jared McCann to the lineup. McCann has played for the Seattle Kraken since the expansion draft and has been one of the team's best forwards. What would it cost GM Chris Drury to acquire him?
According to David Pagnotta and The Fourth Period, Seattle Kraken forward Jared McCann is on the block. The website released their Summer Trade list, which mentioned that multiple NHL teams were interested in the forward.
McCann's contract is an affordable deal, which pays him $5 million AAV, and could end up being a rental for a contending team, depending on whether he decides to extend his contract or not.
McCann has been a dark horse producer after he found his footing in Seattle. He hasn't had a season under 50 points since 2021-2022. He's consistently put up 20-goal seasons for the last four years, including a 40-goal year in 2022-23.
If the Rangers hope to find themselves in the running for a Presidents' Trophy ever again, they could use a 60+ point forward like McCann while he remains cost-controlled.
Perhaps the NY Rangers could include a roster player like Gabe Perreault could kick off the conversation. Moreover, the Rangers have two first-round picks in the 2026 draft. So, one of them could be moved in this trade.
The Rangers may have to give up more futures in order to acquire McCann, so before they decide to pursue a player whom the Kraken aren't in a hurry to trade.
The Rangers will also have to contend with whether or not he has the team on his 10-team NTC as well.
They'll need to decide if trading away Perreault would be smart, especially if McCann turns out to be a rental.
