Well the Rangers got bludgeoned with odd-man rushes in this one in a 6-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators.

Left Igor Shesterkin out to dry in many plays.

Shesterkin didn't have a good night himself, but most of the blame does go to the failing defense.

Here is the scorecard showing everyone's individual performance.

Head coach Peter Laviolette points out the obvious in what went wrong during the game:

"I think we needed to do a better job defensively. There were too many things where they were coming at us with speed and I don't think we layered properly, we don't do the right things with regard to defending, taking care of the rush they got behind us. Different reasons. All teachable things and things we can get better at and show. Tonight, it caught us a little."

Adam Fox also describes how the team was:

"I think we were pretty loose that game. Seemed like especially that second period was run and gun, guys behind us, odd-man rushes. Just a sloppy one out of us, definitely one to forget."

The good news, it was only game 24 out of 82.

The Rangers can't win every game.

The bad news, this has been their style of play the past couple of weeks, and it feels like they have lost their defensive identity.

It's something they can, and most likely will recover from. The sooner the better.
