Longtime NHL Analyst Doesn't Hold Back While Destroying the New York Rangers Retool This Offseason

NHL analyst Jeff Marek has called out GM Chris Drury and the New York Rangers, as he believes the team hasn't changed drastically enough to push the needle this season.
In fact, he called out General Manager Chris Drury and the team, as he believes that the only things that have changed are that the team has gotten a year older.
Given how ineffectual he was during the postseason, his biggest signing being
Vladislav Gavrikov, it's difficult to see what Drury envisioned with Mike Sullivan in charge this year.
Jeff Marek Isn't Sold on the Retool: Are We?
After a dismal season in 2024-25, with a record of 39-36-7, and a 5th place finish in the Metropolitan Division, the team needed to "retool".
The team hired Mike Sullivan, signed Vladislav Gavrikov, and signed some notable RFAs this postseason, but no one who would move the needle.
It seems that Drury may be saving his cache for 2026, when multiple NHL superstars will be available in free agency.
Marek isn't wrong, given how safe he played it during the postseason: instead of making big moves for players like
Nikolaj Ehlers, he signed
Conor Sheary to a PTO.
While acquiring someone like
Scott Morrow is promising for the future, the team is in "win-now" mode.
It's a vision that owner James Dolan believes in as
he extended the General Manager's contract, too.
The Rangers begin their NHL season taking on the Pittsburgh Penguins in Madison Square Garden.
