This news comes simultaneously when the Rangers recalled forward Jonny Brodzinski, goaltender Louis Domingue, and defenseman Connor Mackey, back to the team.
By sending those players down, the Rangers were no longer using their long term injury reserve(LTIR) cap relief, and therefore can go back to accruing cap space.
That means they can send players down to pick up a little extra cap space on off days. But if, or when they bring any back and have to use any of their LTIR space, the accrual process will halt again.
With the news of Shesterkin and the recalls, this means Jonathan Quick likely will have the starting nod on Tuesday, with the original six match-up against the Detroit Red Wings.
