With the retool ongoing, there means there will be open opportunities for players like Gabe Perreault. After GM Chris Drury traded Chris Kreider, and K'Andre Miller depth positions in the lineup should be up for grabs, and all Perreault has to do is impress Mike Sullivan.
Gabe Perreault has issued a bold statement ahead of training camp this year.
"I'm going to make the team
It's good to see him so bold and confident ahead of the year; the Rangers could end up needing his talents the most. He only played five games in the NHL after signing his ELC with GM Chris Drury.
His small taste of hockey in the NHL gave him the confidence the idea he'd make the team this season. That is, of course, after playing 14 minutes TOI in those five games.
«I'm gonna go with the mentality that I'm gonna make the team," the 20-year-old Perreault, the team's first-round draft pick in 2023, said at the Rangers' prospect development camp this week. «I think coming into camp, that's what everyone's mentality should be. So, I'm gonna do everything this summer: train hard, work on the little things I need to, and come here to make the team.''
In order to ensure he's successful ahead of training camp, he's posted up in Chicago and practicing with NHL players in a group that includes three-time Stanley Cup winner,
Patrick Kane.
The sign of face-off king, Yanic Perreault, will have his competition cut out for him, as he'll be fighting for a spot in the lineup with
Brennan Othmann, along with former fifth-round pick
Brett Berard.
He'll have to pick his fights wisely, as the 5'11", 178-pound winger didn't score a point in the five games played with the Blueshirts last year.
However, his offensive production in the NCAA suggests he's no slouch, scoring 16 goals and 48 points in 37 games with the Boston College Eagles.
Perreault would help Team USA earn a Gold Medal in the World Junior Championships, scoring 10 points (3-7) in 7 games with the Rangers.
Perreault can make the team, but he'll have to show Mike Sullivan he's a better option than Brett Berard and Brennan Othmann.
