They could find a trade partner in the Atlantic Division for help in the center position if they look to Ottawa for talent.
Both teams need help, as the Senators are currently 9-11-1, and while they declared their rebuild over, it's not finished.
They still need help in the forward ranks, and one of those players who could interest them is Chris Kreider.
Who could the Rangers make a move for if they send Kreider to Ottawa?
Josh Norris was once considered a cornerstone in the Senators' rebuild but has recently gone under the knife three times to repair his shoulder. While injury troubles have put his future in Ottawa into question, the 25-year-old could realize his potential elsewhere.
During his sophomore season in the NHL, he scored 35 goals, there was a legitimate thought he'd be the next big goal-scorer for the Senators.
But has failed to live up to expectations, as the last two seasons have seen him post only 18 goals. This season he's only scored 14 points( 8 G, 6 A) in 21 games and could use a fresh start elsewhere.
Norris is a remnant of the Pierre Dorion era in Ottawa, in which after he scored 35 goals, he was rewarded by Dorion with a $7.95 million AAV contract.
As the Senators feel the ceiling of the cap press against them, they could move Norris soon.
The Rangers could move Chris Kreider to the Ottawa Senators for Josh Norris, and a 2025 third-round draft pick.
The Senators have plenty of center depth, and it would give both Kreider and Norris a new home. Kreider would shore up the Senators LW position, and give the Rangers depth at center that is sorely missing.
Kreider would give the Senators firepower needed while David Perron is out on injury.
In 19 games with the Rangers this season, Kreider's only scored 9 points( 9 G, 0 A) and there continues to be discussion of whether or not he'll be traded soon.
Will GM Chris Drury follow through on his statement to shake up the lineup?
