The Calgary Flames and New York Rangers are in different spots this season, as the Flames look to move forward with their rebuild, and The New York Rangers will be focused on contending for a Stanley Cup.

While the Rangers are solid in the net, with Igor Shesterkin as the backstop, the Rangers have plenty of depth to make a good playoff run this season.
However, with rumors swirling last season of a Jacob Trouba trade, it's a topic the team could revisit next free agency. Would the Flames make sense as trading partners?
Well, the Flames have plenty of cap space available, they could take on unsavory contracts for draft assets. This in theory could see Trouba heading to Calgary for Huberdeau in exchange for the winger and retaining 50% of his contract.
Trouba's cap hit is a more affordable $8 Million AAV, saving the Flames $2.75 Million in cap space. His physicality could give the younger players on ice more space to play. Trouba could also be a mentor and someone to learn from.
While he has had some controversial moments with some of his hits being considered dirty, he set the tone, and brings physicality and the Flames are missing his style of play, since Mark Giordano's exit.

Flames Add Draft Assets and Leadership

The Flames are in the middle of a rebuild after a re-tool to push them back into contention failed. This was after losing Matthew Tkachuk to Florida, and Johnny Gaudreau to the Columbus Blue Jackets. They'd also bring in Nazeem Kadri to help push the team into winning territory.
While the Flames have some good pieces in Kuzmenko, Mantha and Sharangovich, Conroy moving on from Huberdeau would be a commitment to the rebuild and saving the team money.
Huberdeau would hopefully rebound in New York, and the Rangers to get to save cap space and hunt for their first cup since 1994.
