NHL Insider provides crucial injury update on referee Mitch Dunning after being stretchered off the ice

Terrifying news emerged from the Philadelphia Flyers game against the Colorado Avalanche as veteran NHL official Mitch Dunning sustained a significant injury.

The NHL is known for being a dangerous sport for the everyone who's involved on the ice, including the referees.

Unfortunately Monday night, NHL referee Mitch Dunning collided with defenseman Josh Manson from the Colorado Avalanche and instantly fell to the ice.

Medical personnel didn't waste any time and immediately took to the ice to treat Mitch Dunning, who remained on ice in very serious pain.

After being evaluated by the medical staff on the ice they quickly determined that the referee would need to be stretchered off the ice.

Following the incident reports had surfaced stating that Mitch Dunnimg suffered a back injury and was being transported to a local hospital for further medical treatment.

However, sine than NHL Insider Frank Seravalli has provided an update on Mitch Dunning's condition, stating the following:

Update: #NHL referee Mitch Dunning is back home and resting after a scary collision last night in Philadelphia that saw him taken off the ice on a stretcher.

Dunning is sore but otherwise doing fine after examination at a local hospital.

Great news.

Definitely great to see that referee Mitch Dunning will make a full recovery and will hopefully return to the very soon.

With hockey being such a fast paced sport anything can happen, with ten players constantly moving around accidents are common.
