It was assumed that after his last season with the Minnesota Wild, Marc-Andre Fleury would retire from the NHL. Those assumptions have bitten the dust, as Fleury has returned to the team that drafted him for the 2025-26 preseason, and his former head coach, Mike Sullivan, has broken his silence.

Marc-Andre Fleury was originally drafted 1st overall in 2003 by the Pittsburgh Penguins. The veteran goaltender spent the 2024-25 season and the last three years of his career with the Minnesota Wild.
We had assumed he'd retrired for good after finishing the year outside of the playoffs and saying "goodbye" to us all. But it was surprising to fans everywhere, as Flower announced that he'd suit up for the Penguins this year.
Flower signed a PTO, professional try-out offer with the Penguins on September 12th, 2025.

Mike Sullivan Breaks Silence on Marc-Andre Fleury's Return

His former Coach, Mike Sullivan, now with the Rangers, broke his silence on the future Hall of Famer's return to the NHL.
"He just represents everything that makes us proud to be associated with the game."
Sullivan believes that Fleury is everything that makes NHL players and coaches proud to be associated with the game of hockey.
Their former bench boss believes that it'll be a great experience for Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Fleury, who grew up together in the NHL and won three Stanley Cups together.
With that being said, Fleury is set to play his final game for the Penguins during their preseason game tonight, against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
A great send-off to a legendary career that is destined for the Hall of Fame.
