The National Hockey league and the National Hockey League Players' Association has just announced some massive news regarding former players.

For the first time in NHL history, the league will be taken care of their former players, all thanks to the new element of the upcoming Collective Bargaining Agreement that takes effect in 2026.
Thankfully we will be seeing several changes coming to the league with the NHL's new Collective Bargaining Agreement, such as a new 84 game schedule and even an earlier start date to the season, and now a new system that will take care of former players.

The NHL Confirms Emergency Healthcare and Wellness Fund for Retired Players

On Tuesday, the NHL and NHLPA have made the announcement that promises a $4 Million annually to the Retired Players Emergency Healthcare and Wellness Fund, a new fund for former and retired players.
Current NHL Alumni Association president and executive director Glenn Healey, revealed his excitement for the league as he describes this as "Christmas Day."
"Our wellness plan is not like basketball," Healy said. "It's not like football. We're different in this sport. We don't have our teeth. We have different issues, and this is I think a real step forward for the players. This is groundbreaking. This is Christmas Day for us."

NHLPA Assistant Executive Director Ron Hainsey, who played over 1,000 NHL games, including the following:
"This is just another additional thing we can do for our current and former players," said Hainsey, who played over 1,000 games from 2002-20. "The idea is when our players do leave the game here, in the future, that they're in a totally different situation for their post-career lives."

Truly some great news for players all across the National Hockey League. Do you think NHL players need a Emergency Healthcare and Wellness Fund? Let us know in the poll down below.
