NHL Insider Colin Stephenson of NewsDay has given us a status update of forward Vinnie Trocheck. The Rangers' 1C was placed on long-term injured reserve on October 15th. Since then, we haven't heard much.
The New York Rangers have a problem. That is, 1st line center Vinnie Trocheck is out of the lineup on LTIR. The forward was placed there in the middle of October after suffering an upper-body injury during the game on the 9th against the Buffalo Sabres.
We haven't heard or seen much regarding his status until NHL Insider Colin Stephenson of Newsday posted on "X" today.
The New York Rangers Remain Without Vinnie Trocheck for the Foreseeable future
The New York Rangers, without Trocheck, are flailing in the Metropolitan Division. With a record of 3-4-2, and Mika Zibanejad left to fill the gap left by him. He only suited up for two games this season and scored a point.
Not great for a team that is supposed to be turning things around.
Since then, the team has fallen to 7th in the Metropolitan Division.
Players like Taylor Raddysh aren't the kind you rely on to fill the void left by Trocheck, even though he did score a hat-trick against the San Jose Sharks.
With Trocheck out, veteran Conor Sheary, who spent most of last season in the American Hockey League (AHL), is playing in the top six, and Mika Zibanejad, who began the season at winger, is back at center.
They're missing his ability to win face-offs and his play on the Rangers' special teams.
Will Will Cuylle, Alexis Lafreniere, Mika Zibanejad and J.T. Miller be able to step up in his absence?
